My Work: What do you feel is the most successful element of the work? Why? I feel that Alex is facing the same way and has the same posture as the person in the reference picture is the most successful element. It is more important to get them to have the same figure than to have the same shading. You cannot shade a picture and make it look good unless the model first has the same posture. If they don't have the same figure, then what's the use of even shading it.
What do you think could be improved or changed about the work? Why? I would manage my time better, so I can have more time to take pictures and get the lighting right. I would also find someone with a beard and glasses to use as a model. I want to make the picture look as close to the original as possible.
What drew you to the subject of the work? Why? (your own work only) The guy in the reference photo had an interesting mood. I was looking for a picture and this was the only one I found that looked good. I find that these types of pictures make you think the most about what their mood is. The lighting was also a big part of it. I wanted the lighting to be at that angle because it looks nice.
Laura's Work:
What do you feel is the most successful element of the work? Why? I feel that the way Kylon is sitting is the most successful element. He just gives off the feeling that that is who he is. He really does have that attitude towards life.
What do you think could be improved or changed about the work? Why? I think that the background didn't need to be shaded. I would rather of had it all white. That would be a direct contrast from the reference photo. I feel that that was what the author was going for, but Laura did not fully contrast the photo from the reference photo.
Michael's Work:
What do you feel is the most successful element of the work? Why? I feel that Alex's posture was the most successful element. He did not get the shading right. He did get the posture right. The men have the same expressions on their face. They are both thinking about something.
What do you think could be improved or changed about the work? Why? He should take time to get the shading right. It is important to have the shading right or the photo won't have the same mood as the reference photo. I feel that getting that mood is important. You can tell what the author is trying to tell you.
